Stepping into the Cabaret of Hell: My Contribution to an Occult Zine
In the spirit of the legendary Cabaret de l'Enfer, I am thrilled to share my participation in a modern zine (available on Amazon here) that resurrects the macabre and mystical allure of this historic Parisian haunt. Founded in 1892 by Antonin Alexander, the Cabaret de l'Enfer was a cornerstone of Montmartre's vibrant and eccentric nightlife. It offered an immersive experience that blended humour, magic, and the supernatural.
The Cabaret de l'Enfer was not merely a venue. It was a precursor to today's theme restaurants, captivating visitors with its hellish ambience and playful, diabolic performances. Patrons were greeted by a devilish doorman with the ominous invitation, "Enter and be damned!". Inside, the atmosphere was alive with costumed waitstaff, eerie music, and spectacles of illusory magic. The zine, created and edited by author Anna McKerrow, is a virtual demonic cabaret, where modern-day occult artists and writers can share their insights and creativity. It is a collection that seeks to entertain, educate, and perhaps even serve as a conduit for otherworldly entities to communicate. By contributing to this zine, I hope to honour the playful yet profound legacy of the Cabaret de l'Enfer and invite readers to explore the intersection of art, magic, and the supernatural.
Join us as we journey through the pages of this zine, much like the patrons of Montmartre once stepped into the underworld of the Cabaret de l'Enfer. May you find delight and inspiration in our collective imagination's dark, whimsical corners.
